The Sacred Pause Before the Next Chapter
I rest. I feel. I nourish.
As we arrive at the Cancer New Moon, now is the time to turn inward. This is not a lunation that asks you to rush ahead or make bold declarations. Instead, it calls you back to the body, the home, and the hearth. It asks you to make space for the emotions you’ve been carrying throughout the year and to become deeply present with yourself.
New Moons mark a new beginning. They are a time for planting seeds and setting intentions. Yet Cancer reminds you that every new beginning first requires a return. Before you move forward, come back home.
This New Moon encourages you to reconnect with your relationship to your body, your family, ancestry, and the places where you feel safe enough to soften. There is profound medicine available to you in the slowing down.
A Pause Before the Next Chapter
Jupiter in Leo + Mercury Cazimi
Jupiter recently entered Leo (June 29), where it will remain for the next year, ushering in a season of creative expansion, joy, confidence, and heart-centered growth. However, this Cancer New Moon reminds us that there is still important emotional processing unfolding before we fully step into this new chapter.
This New Moon also arrives near the Mercury Cazimi, the midpoint of Mercury retrograde, when Mercury is closest to the Sun. Symbolically, this is a moment of insight born from reflection. Rather than charging ahead, now is a time to reconsider, revise, and listen carefully for what wants to emerge.
As a reminder, 2026 is a collective Wheel of Fortune / Magician Year (2+0+2+6 = 10, 1+0 = 1), making these transits especially potent. Jupiter corresponds with the Wheel of Fortune, inviting trust in the unfolding cycles of growth, opportunity, and destiny, while Mercury aligns with The Magician, reminding us that clear intention and skillful communication shape what we create.
So while we may already sense new possibilities beginning to stir on the horizon, this Cancer New Moon moment asks us to honor the emotional groundwork before leaping toward what’s next.
Cancer Through an Esoteric Lens
Neptune in Aries
Traditionally, Cancer is ruled by the Moon, making this New Moon especially potent for themes of intuition, emotional healing, ancestry, dreams, memory, and our connection to the past.
Esoterically, however, Cancer is connected to Neptune. Beneath its protective shell, Cancer carries a deep sensitivity to the unseen realms, to the the oceanic waters of intuition, imagination, and collective memory. Neptune expands Cancer’s natural ability to feel beyond the individual self, inviting a relationship with compassion, spirituality, and the mysterious currents that connect all beings.
This is especially meaningful because Neptune has recently stationed retrograde in Aries. After reaching 4° Aries, Neptune now begins its journey retrograde, returning to 1° Aries by the time we reach Sagittarius season.
If you have planets or angles between 0° and 4° Aries, you may be revisiting an important spiritual initiation that began earlier this year.
Neptune in Aries asks:
How are you taking action from your soul instead of your fear?
How are you showing up for your spiritual practices?
What does devotion look like to you now?
This transit is helping us discover a more intuitive form of courage. Rather than acting from impulse, we’re learning how to let spiritual wisdom guide our actions.
A Rare Basket Formation
Pluto – Neptune – Uranus – Jupiter
One of the most fascinating features of this New Moon is a rare basket formation in the sky.
Pluto in Aquarius forms a sextile to Neptune in Aries.
Neptune sextiles Uranus in Gemini.
Uranus sextiles Jupiter in Leo.
Together, these planets create half of a hexagon, weaving together some of the most significant outer-planet transits of our lifetime.
Each planet contributes its own invitation:
Pluto in Aquarius asks for deep collective transformation, intergenerational healing, and a new understanding of humanity.
Neptune in Aries inspires spiritual courage, intuitive leadership, and faith in one’s own path.
Uranus in Gemini accelerates innovation, communication, education, and entirely new ways of sharing information and connecting with one another.
Jupiter in Leo expands creativity, generosity, romance, playfulness, and the courage to live from the heart.
Together, these transits describe a world undergoing profound change.
The Tension Between Heart and Humanity
Jupiter–Pluto Opposition
One of the defining themes of the coming year is the growing opposition between Leo and Aquarius, which will be further escalated when the Nodes of Fate shift into this polarity at the end of the month on July 26.
Jupiter in Leo wants us to express ourselves boldly, embody our truth, face our fears with authenticity, celebrate life, create generously, practice vulnerability, and love more fully.
Pluto in Aquarius asks us to expand our consciousness to understand the deeper psychological undercurrents in the greater systems within humanity. Pluto in Aquarius encourages us to expand our consciousness to incorproate the group, to take accountability for our collective wrongdoings, to develop new vocabulary for evolving times, and to seek greater awareness of the truth behind our collective history.
On a challenging day, this could look like two people who are falling deeply in love with one another (Jupiter in Leo) but find themselves divided by fundamentally polarizing worldviews. There may be a divide between head and heart, and then need for parts of the self to die and be reborn into order for a new authentic self to emerge, a self that is more deeply authentic and free.
From a soul-centered perspective, this Jupiter-Pluto opposition empowers us to channel our creativity and love into service for collective transformation. It encourages new forms of leadership, communication, art, and community that help humanity evolve together.
Cancer New Moon – Cancer Holds the Center
Interestingly, this Cancer New Moon occupies a unique position within all of these larger transits forming a basket.
Cancer forms a quincunx to Aquarius and squares Aries. It also sits between both Gemini and Leo, making it something of a quiet mediator amid the louder conversations happening elsewhere in the zodiac.
There may be many demands competing for your attention right now. The world is changing quickly. Technology is accelerating. Collective conversations may feel particularly tense or deep.
Cancer gently reminds you that none of that matters if we lose connection with the self. The invitation is simple: Rest. Feel. Nourish. Come back home.
This Cancer New Moon offers a sacred pause before next month’s Leo New Moon, which arrives as a Solar Eclipse and activates many of the larger planetary configurations currently taking shape.
The pace may quicken or evolve as we head into the rest of July and August, as the invitations toward courage, visibility, and transformation become even more pronounced.
So for now, on this Cancer New Moon, let yourself exhale. Sink into your body. Listen to your emotions. Allow yourself the gift of stillness while it is available. The seeds you plant through rest and reflection now will support the tremendous growth unfolding over the coming year.

"Every new beginning first requires a return, before you move forward, come back home" is a useful correction to the general cultural instinct that momentum always has to point outward and upward to count as progress. Sometimes the actual next step is backward, toward whatever got left unprocessed the last time everyone was in a hurry to keep moving.
